Nintendo had a very short section on the Nintendo 3DS at this years conference but they did show a new addition to the Super Mario franchise where collecting coins is the main objective. Mario returns to handhelds in New Super Mario Bros. 2 this time around in 3D, meaning it’ll not only come to the DS but the 3DS as well. In Mario Bros. 2 not only are you going to have to rescue the princess but also collect 1 MILLION COINS ! ! ! Yes coins are very important in this game but so is rescuing the princess which means youll need a little help from some familiar Mario allies, Luigi makes a return along with an arsenal of powerups like the raccoon suit and penguin suite. There was also a brief moment where we saw Mario turn solid gold when reaching a certain amount of coins if this is a power up its powers are still unknown to us but sooner or later well find out what this power does.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be a digital download on Nintendo 3DS’s eShop as well as a physical copy you can actually purchase at a store just download and play on the go anytime. The price is still unknown but most likely will be in the be 35.99 range like any other 3DS game and its release date will be sometime in August 2012. The princess has been captured who will save her now? Its a me a mario!!! Yes questers mario is back and has returned to his old platformer ways with a new school twist all in stunning hd 3d. Bowser has taken the princess once again and mario is on a mission to recover his one and only true love but he cant do it alone with the help of you and his trusty toads mario travels multiple worlds to save princess peach.
Nintendo promised that Super Mario 3D land would show off their nintendo 3DS true 3D capability and trust me they delivered. Ive hated playing some 3DS titles simply cause the 3D is either to harsh on the eyes or nothing at all pops out at you but this Mario title completely uses every aspect of the 3D in can. You can play it in 2D but in my opinion its really weak and makes some levels harder to play so turning the 3D up on this game is a must in order to get the full experience. With the 3D on youll see mario jump up towards you or have multiple clouds fly past you while you fight your way through levels filled with familiar enemies.
Theres 8 worlds in total with multiple levels in each, some of you hardcore mario fans will find the first few worlds fairly easy but that doesnt mean later worlds will be the same, some of the later levels proved to be a challenge even to some of us veteran players. Even though this is a new mario game it was awesome seeing some old mario elements weve grown to love brought back such as sinking in green plumbing tunnels, sliding down flag poles and even bouncing off music pads to reach hidden levels in the sky. All our favorite enemies are back as well from Goombas with tanooki tales to the classic piranha plants. You can also suit up mario with either the tanooki suit or the boomerang suite making some levels much easier if you can keep the powers meaning one touch from an enemy and your powers are gone. The classic fire suit also makes a return in some levels and is very fun to use.
Super mario land 3D looks great the graphics look exactly like that of super mario galaxy 2 so theres no complaints there and the music makes each level unique. This is truly the best game on the 3ds and gets a 10/10 from me, with that said please go pick up this title and enjoy!
